Held again — promos still lead
Bank Negara Holds OPR at 2.75% — Which FD Promos Still Beat It
Bank Negara held the Overnight Policy Rate at 2.75% on 3 September — the seventh straight meeting without a change since July 2025’s cut. Board fixed deposit rates stay put too, but a handful of promo rates still clear the OPR by over a point.
Seventh hold in a row
- Malaysia’s economy grew 5.7% in H1 2026 — BNM cited that resilience for holding rather than cutting further.
- Elevated commodity prices are still pushing up costs, BNM said, even as tech-sector spending cushions the hit.
- A hold doesn’t move board FD rates — those only shift if BNM actually cuts or hikes the OPR itself.
What still beats it
- Alliance Bank’s Sri Petaling branch offer is the highest on our panel — over the counter only, and new money required.
- HSBC’s rate needs new-to-Premier status — a RM300k relationship balance or RM1m+ home loan to qualify.
- CIMB and AmBank’s online promos need no wealth segment — just a fresh-funds placement through the app.

What to watch
- 30 Sep 2026The AmBank, CIMB, HSBC Premier and UOB FD Plus offers on this chart all end — look for a fresh cycle before committing new money.
- 31 Oct 2026Alliance Bank’s Sri Petaling branch offer runs longest of the six.
- 5 Nov 2026Bank Negara’s last MPC meeting of 2026 — the next chance for the OPR to actually move.
