Fees shown as rate + base fee, e.g. 0.10% (RM8+) means a 0.10% rate with a roughly RM8 floor per trade. Contra (collateralised accounts) lets you buy and sell before settlement; the trading limit is typically only about 2–3× your deposited collateraland is set by the broker's credit approval — e.g. RM10k collateral is usually ~RM25k–30k of buying power, notRM100k. Cash-upfront / digital brokers don't offer contra.

Indicative information, not financial advice.Brokerage fees, promotions and features change frequently and vary by account type and trade size — always verify the current terms on each broker's official website before opening an account. Bursa trades also carry government charges (clearing fee, stamp duty and SST) on top of brokerage. Star ratings & App Store download figures are indicative (reviewed July 2026) — sample sizes vary widely, so a few-review score isn't comparable to a large one. Stock brokers Malaysia — FAQ

Which is the cheapest stock broker in Malaysia?

For small Bursa Malaysia trades the lowest-cost options are the digital brokers — Webull (0.05%, min RM2.50, no platform fee, often with a 0% promo) and Rakuten Trade (flat RM1–RM2.88 on small tickets). moomoo has the lowest percentage (0.03%) but a RM3 base fee. Traditional bank-backed brokers (Maybank, Kenanga, CGS, Public Bank) are usually pricier unless you use their cash-upfront accounts. Always compare against your typical trade size — flat fees win on small trades, percentages on large ones.

Are moomoo and Webull safe and regulated in Malaysia?

Yes. moomoo (Moomoo Securities Malaysia) and Webull (Webull Securities Malaysia) both hold a Capital Markets Services Licence from the Securities Commission Malaysia, and Webull is a Bursa Malaysia Participating Organisation. Rakuten Trade, Maybank, Kenanga and CGS International are also SC-licensed. Interactive Brokers is not SC-regulated but is regulated overseas (US SEC/FINRA and others) and accepts Malaysian clients.

Which broker is best for buying US stocks from Malaysia?

moomoo and Webull both offer cheap US trading with long commission-free promos and free or low-cost real-time US data. Rakuten Trade is simple but limits you to a smaller list of US stocks and limit orders only. For the lowest costs on larger US/global portfolios and the cheapest FX conversion (0.002%), Interactive Brokers is hard to beat — at the cost of a steeper learning curve.

Do I need a CDS account to trade Malaysian stocks?

Yes — to trade on Bursa Malaysia you need a Central Depository System (CDS) account, which your broker opens for you (Bursa charges a one-time RM10). Digital brokers like moomoo, Webull and Rakuten open a nominee or direct CDS account during their fully-online eKYC sign-up, usually in 1–3 working days.

Which crypto exchanges are legal in Malaysia?

Only exchanges registered as a Digital Asset Exchange (DAX) with the Securities Commission Malaysia may legally serve Malaysian retail users. As of the SC's latest register these include Luno, HATA, MX Global, SINEGY, Kinetic and Torum. Note that Tokenize Xchange is no longer on the SC's approved list, and global names like Binance and Bybit are not SC-regulated for Malaysian retail — so use a registered DAX for protection.

Can I trade on margin or with leverage?

Among the brokers here, moomoo offers margin financing (MYR rate around 6.8% p.a.), and the bank-backed brokers (Maybank, Kenanga, CGS) offer share margin financing and contra trading. Webull Malaysia and Rakuten Trade are cash-only. Interactive Brokers has the lowest margin rates in the industry. The SC-registered crypto exchanges are spot-only and do not offer leverage to retail users.

How does contra trading work, and how big is the limit?

Contra (offered on collateralised accounts at brokers like Maybank, Kenanga and CGS) lets you buy shares and sell them before the T+2 settlement date without paying upfront — if you sell at a profit you keep the difference; if at a loss you settle the difference. Your contra/trading limit is a multiple of the collateral you deposit, but for regulated Malaysian brokers that multiple is typically only about 2–3 times — so RM10,000 of collateral usually gives roughly RM25,000–RM30,000 of buying power, not RM100,000. The exact limit is set by the broker's credit assessment. Cash-upfront and digital brokers (moomoo, Webull, Rakuten) don't offer contra — you pay for trades upfront.
