Maybank gold on the mae app convenient for digital purchase

Maybank Gold Price Today

Maybank doesn't set its gold price arbitrarily — the Gold Investment Account (GIA) and Islamic Gold Account-i (MIGA-i) track the international spot gold price, converted into ringgit. Here's how today's Maybank gold rate is worked out:

  • 🌍
Global spot price — gold trades worldwide (benchmarked to the London/LBMA price) in US dollars per troy ounce(≈31.1 grams). This is the base everyone's price is built on.
  • 💱
Converted to ringgit — Maybank converts that USD price into RM using the prevailing USD/MYR exchange rate, then quotes it per gram for the account.
  • Bank spread — the daily Selling price (what you pay to buy) sits just above spot and the Buyingprice (what you get when selling back) just below; that gap is Maybank's margin.
  • 🕘
Updated daily — the rate is refreshed each morning (Maybank shows its effective date/time) and can move intraday as gold and the ringgit move.

So the Maybank gold price moves with two things: the world gold price and the strength of the ringgit against the US dollar — a rising gold price or a weaker ringgit pushes the RM price up, while a stronger ringgit can offset gold gains. The gold itself is 999.9 fine gold, fully backed by physical bullion held with PAMP(a Swiss-certified refiner). Maybank's live buy/sell rate is in the comparison table above.

Maybank Gold Investment — FAQ

Open a Maybank Gold Investment Account (GIA) — or the Islamic version, MIGA-i — at a branch or through the Maybank2u app, linked to your Maybank savings or current account. Once it's open you buy 999.9 gold by the gram at the day's price, and your holding is recorded in the account. It's open to individuals of all ages (for under-18s, a parent or guardian opens it as trustee).

A savings or current account with the bank plus your IC/ID. You can start small — Maybank's minimum purchase is as little as 1 gram, with top-ups from 1 gram, so you can buy gradually and average your cost over time. Minimums vary by bank, so check each provider before opening.

Only the Islamic MIGA-i can be redeemed for physical — the conventional GIA is cash-only. MIGA-i gives you 999.9 fine gold bars, 1g to 1kg, collected at selected Maybank branches or by courier (fees apply; 8% SST from Apr 2026). Other providers that allow physical: Bank Islam, BSN, UOB and Public Gold (CIMB, RHB and Public Bank are paper-only).

Redemption itself is done at selected Maybank branches (self-collection, no delivery charge) or shipped to you — courier for bars up to 100g, special delivery up to 3,000g, both with extra handling/insurance fees. A redemption fee applies too, roughly RM25 for a 1g bar up to ~RM1,450 for a 1kg bar, plus 8% SST on that fee from 15 April 2026. But once it's in your hands as a physical bar, Maybank won't buy it back over the counter — that only works for your undredeemed digital balance (sell that back anytime via the app/branch at the day's buying price, see below). To cash out a physical bar, sell it to a bullion dealer's buyback counter instead — e.g. Public Gold, Habib Jewels or Poh Kong — at their prevailing rate.

You can sell any time during trading hours via the app or a branch — you sell back to the bank at that day's buying price, and the ringgit proceeds are credited to your linked account, usually the same day. There's no fixed tenure or lock-in, so you're free to exit whenever the price suits you. This applies to your digital account balance only — once gold is redeemed as a physical bar it leaves the account, and Maybank doesn't buy physical bars back (see the redemption question above).

It tracks the international spot gold price (quoted in US dollars per ounce), converted into ringgit per gram and set by the bank — updated daily, sometimes intraday. So your price moves with both global gold and the USD/MYR exchange rate, which is why the live rates above shift each day.

Gold prices can fall, so you can lose money — it's an investment, not a savings product. Because gold is priced in US dollars, a stronger ringgit can eat into your returns even if gold rises. You also pay the spread (you buy higher and sell lower), and gold earns no interest or dividend while you hold it. Importantly, a gold investment account is not a bank deposit and is not protected by PIDM.

A gold account is cheaper to trade (tighter spread, no storage) and easy to buy and sell in small amounts — better for pure investment. Physical gold (bars, wafers, 916 jewellery) gives you something tangible you can keep or gift, but carries a higher premium and storage/security cost. Many people use accounts to invest and physical gold for keepsakes.

Yes. Islamic gold accounts — Maybank MIGA-i, Bank Islam BIGA-i and BSN MyGold-i — use Shariah-compliant structures with same-day settlement, and outright ownership of physical gold is always permissible.
