Third rise in a row
RON95 Up to RM4.57, Diesel to RM5.42 — Fuel Prices Rise for a Third Straight Week
Fuel prices rose for a third week in a row. From midnight, unsubsidised RON95 costs RM4.57 and diesel RM5.42 — up 20 sen and 15 sen. But this week's reason is different: the Finance Ministry blames a squeezed global diesel market, not the Gulf tanker tension that drove the last two rises.

Third rise in a row, but a different cause
- Russian diesel production is disrupted tightening global supply, the Finance Ministry says.
- West Asian diesel exports fell over 50% between March and August, per the ministry.
- Super-tanker rents hit about US$1 million a day on some West Asia routes, pushing shipping costs into the price.
Most drivers are shielded, again
- BUDI95 and Budi Madani Diesel don't move this week's rise only hits Malaysians paying the market rate.
- The monthly quota is still 300 litres before you pay market rate for RON95 or Budi Diesel.
Updating our 17-23 Sept piece. We covered a 35-sen jump on Gulf tanker tension last week. This week's rise is smaller, but the run continues — and for the first time this cycle, the Finance Ministry's own stated reason is a diesel supply squeeze rather than crude.
What to watch
- Wed, 30 SeptNext weekly float announcement — whether the diesel squeeze holds into a fourth straight rise.
- OngoingWhether West Asian diesel exports and tanker rates ease from the levels MOF cited this week.
