The week ahead

Malaysian Finance Calendar: 17–23 August 2026

Two things this week actually touch a Malaysian wallet, and they land on the same day: Wednesday’s petrol price and the deadline on Hong Leong’s 3.60% FD promo. Thursday brings July’s trade numbers. Everything else is a dividend or a data release.

Wednesday carries two separate wallet events — the petrol price and a fixed deposit deadline. The new pump price only takes effect Thursday.
  • Wednesday is also a deadline. Hong Leong’s 6-month eFD tier stops accepting new placements after Wednesday.
  • Most drivers won’t feel Thursday. BUDI95 stays RM1.99 — only the unsubsidised grades move with the float.

Bursa: four straight ex-dividend days

Buy on the ex-date itself and the seller keeps the dividend.Prices normally drop by roughly the dividend on the ex-date — that fall is not the market selling off.
Tuesday to Friday, eight counters go ex — led by Bursa Malaysia’s own 16.5 sen interim payout.
  • Bursa Malaysia tops its own week. The exchange operator’s own interim is the week’s single largest payout.
  • Own it the day before. Buy on the ex-date itself and the seller — not you — keeps the dividend.
Deposit rates are anchored — but one promo isn’t waiting. Bank Negara’s next MPC decision isn’t until 3 September, so ordinary FD board rates hold steady this week. But Hong Leong’s 3.60% eFD is a live promo, not a board rate, and it closes Wednesday. Read the full terms or compare today’s FD rates before it lapses.
