The close, not the open
Butterfield FB Closed 4.2% Below Its IPO Price, Not the 10% Headlines Reported
Several headlines called Butterfield FB’s ACE Market debut a 10% slide. That was the opening price. By Bursa’s 5pm close, the coffee and tea extract maker had climbed back — a smaller, different result.
- Market cap ended the day at RM368 million, down from RM384 million at the IPO price.
- BusinessToday and NST’s own headlines use the word “opens,” the tell that their number wasn’t the final close.
- The IPO itself was oversubscribed 18.7 times three weeks earlier — demand didn’t carry into the after-market close.
